Oregon Producer Licensing

Pre-Licensing Requirements

Before taking the Oregon P&C exam, you must:

1. Age Requirement

• Must be at least 18 years old

2. Pre-Licensing Education

• 20 hours of approved pre-licensing education
• Must be completed through Oregon-approved provider
• Certificate valid for 12 months
• Covers Oregon insurance law and regulations

3. Background Check

• FBI and state criminal history check required
• Fingerprinting mandatory
• Must disclose any criminal convictions
• DFR reviews background before issuing license

4. Application

• Submit through NIPR (National Insurance Producer Registry)
• Pay $170 license application fee
• Provide proof of pre-licensing education

The Licensing Exam

License Renewal

Oregon P&C licenses must be renewed:

• Every 2 years
• On the licensee's birth date
• Must complete 24 hours of CE (including 3 hours ethics)
• Renewal fee: $170
• Late renewal: $50 penalty + CE requirements

Exam Tip: Remember Oregon's biennial renewal is based on birth date, not license issue date.

Nonresident Licensing

Producers licensed in other states can obtain Oregon nonresident licenses:

• Requirement: Must hold active resident license in home state
• Reciprocity: Oregon has reciprocity with most states
• No Exam Required: If home state has reciprocity
• Same CE Requirements: 24 hours/2 years including 3 hours ethics
