Oregon Producer Licensing Requirements

Oregon has specific requirements for obtaining a Life & Health insurance license.

Pre-License Education Requirements

Required Hours

Key Points:

• Must complete at DFR-approved schools
• Course completion certificate valid for 1 year
• Must pass closed-book course final exam with 70%
• Online and classroom options available

Important: Oregon DOES require pre-license education, unlike some neighboring states. You cannot sit for the exam without completing the required hours.

Course Content

The 40-hour pre-license course must cover:

1. Life insurance fundamentals
2. Annuities and retirement products
3. Health insurance principles
4. Oregon insurance law and regulations
5. Ethics and producer responsibilities

Certificate Requirements

• Certificate of completion issued by approved provider
• Must be presented when applying for license
• Valid for 1 year from issue date
• If you do not pass the exam within 1 year, you must retake the pre-license education

Exam Day Requirements

What to Bring:

• Two valid forms of ID (driver's license, passport, military ID)
• At least one must be government-issued with photo
• Name on ID must match registration exactly

Testing Rules:

• To change or cancel appointment, contact PSI at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit exam fee
• No cell phones or electronic devices at testing station
• No personal items at testing station
• Results provided immediately after completing exam

Fingerprinting Process

Important Points:

• Fingerprinting MUST take place on the same day you pass the exam
• Can only be done at an Oregon PSI test site
• Fee covers comparison of prints against criminal history records

Warning: If you take the online remote proctored exam, you must still go to an Oregon PSI test site to complete fingerprinting before your license can be issued.
