Indiana Producer Licensing Requirements

Indiana has specific requirements for obtaining a Life, Accident & Health insurance license.

Pre-License Education Requirements

Required Hours

Key Points:

• Must complete at IDOI-approved schools
• Course completion certificate valid for 6 months only
• Must pass course final exam with 70%
• Online and classroom options available

Important: Indiana's 6-month certificate validity is shorter than many other states. Plan accordingly!

Pre-License Education Exemptions

Applicants may be exempt from pre-license education if they hold one of these designations:

• CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter)
• CFP (Certified Financial Planner)
• CFC (Chartered Financial Consultant)
• CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter)
• CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor)
• AAI (Accredited Adviser in Insurance)

Note: If granted a waiver, you must still pass a state laws and regulations exam. Bring the waiver documentation to the test center.

The 40-hour pre-license course must cover:

1. Life insurance fundamentals
2. Annuities and retirement products
3. Health and accident insurance
4. Indiana insurance law and regulations
5. Ethics and producer responsibilities

1. Complete pre-license education at approved school
2. Schedule exam through Pearson VUE

3. Choose testing option:
   • Pearson VUE testing center
   • OnVUE online proctored exam

Exam Day Requirements

What to Bring:

• Government-issued photo ID with signature (driver's license, passport, military ID)
• Secondary ID with signature
• Pre-license education waiver (if applicable)
• Electronic copies on mobile devices are acceptable

Testing Rules:

• Arrive 30 minutes before scheduled time
• No cell phones or electronic devices at testing station
• No personal items at testing station
• Calculator provided by testing center (no personal calculators)
• Results provided immediately after completing exam

2. Pay application fee ($40)
3. Submit within 6 months of completing pre-license education and passing exam

Warning: If you do not apply for licensure within 6 months of completing your pre-license education and passing the exam, you will be required to retake both.
